Nov. 14, 2012
CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago second-year women's volleyball head coach Chris Muscat and his staff have announced the signing of three recruits to National Letters of Intent on the opening day of the early signing period. Outside hitter Morgan Reardon (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) joins middles Olivia Akin (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) and Sami Hansen (Bennington, Neb./Bennington) to make up the class that will be eligible for competition for the 2013 season.
Versatile player who has played on the left, on the right and in the middle ... Posted 429 kills, 353 digs, 43 service aces and 57 blocks her senior year ... Helped Divine Savior Holy Angels to 43-5 record and runner-up finish in state tournament ... Named to the Division I All-Tournament Team ... Played club volleyball for the Milwaukee Sting.
Muscat on Olivia: "Olivia is one of the most complete players that I have seen in a while. She has experience playing three different positions and has been successful at all of them. Her versatility and overall skill will give us some options and will enable us to put her in positions to score points in a multitude of ways. Olivia is an intelligent player that learns very fast and is a process oriented athlete. We are very excited to start her training."
Excellent athlete who also lettered in basketball ... Racked up 312 kills, a school-record 102 blocks and 43 aces her senior year ... Member of Prep Volleyball's Super Soph list in 2010 ... Named Honorable Mention All-State by the Associated Press after her sophomore and junior years ... Also earned second team all-area honors in 2011 ... Played club volleyball for Nebraska Elite ... Member of the National Honor Society.
Muscat on Sami: "Sami first caught our attention because of her aggressiveness and competitiveness. She loves to compete and is fearless. Her work ethic and 'all-in' attitude will serve as reinforcement of the culture and intent that this program has of competing at an elite level over the next four years. Sami will be a huge offensive threat as she can score bunches of points as an attacker. Her heavy arm and athleticism off one foot will add to an already potent offensive system at Loyola."
Terrific player from one of area's top volleyball programs ... Recorded 413 kills, 281 digs and 46 aces her senior season ... Named 2012 Player of the Year by the Joliet Herald-News ... Earned all-conference, all-area and all-state accolades her junior season ... Honorable Mention All-State selection by the Chicago Tribune ... Member of Illinois state championship squad in 2010 ... Helped team to 12th consecutive regional title last year ... Slammed 25 kills against St. Francis.
Muscat on Morgan: "Morgan is an explosive athlete with a fast and dynamic arm swing and she has the skill set to be among the elite players in our region. Her contact height coupled with versatility and shot-making ability make her an effective attacker in the front and back row. She is a very rangy defender and has the potential to be a dominant blocker. More than her volleyball ability she is a very unique individual with personality to spare and she will fit right in to the culture that we have here at Loyola."
